Ask Gus
Common snags
What the messages in the Ask Gus panel mean, and what to do about each one.
Finding Gus
- There's no Ask Gus in the left rail. Ask Gus isn't available on your workspace yet.
- Gus disappeared when I opened a deal. On a narrow window, Gus steps aside while a deal, meeting or contact is open, and comes back when you close it. On a wider window it sits beside the record instead.
Answers
- "Goose Brain is off for this workspace." Gus can still look up deals and meetings, but not transcripts, email, Slack or documents. An admin can turn Brain on in Settings › Brain.
- The answer has no sources, or a chip shows only a kind and a date. Gus answered from a record's own fields, such as a deal's stage, which have no source to cite. A chip with no title is a source Goose has no name for, or a Drive document whose name you can't read. See Read the answer.
- Gus doesn't know about a meeting a teammate mentioned. Gus only uses meetings you can see. A private or hidden meeting isn't used for you. See What Gus can see.
- An answer about many deals at once is incomplete. For each question, Gus makes at most four rounds of lookups, a list it reads holds at most 100 rows, and a search of what Goose knows returns at most 12 passages. Ask about fewer deals at a time, or narrow the question to a stage, an owner or a date.
- "Goose finished without an answer." Press Ask again.
- Gus seems to have forgotten something from earlier in a long conversation. Gus works from the latest 40 messages. Start a new conversation and say it again.
- The answer looks wrong. Press its markers to read the passages it used. If a source doesn't say what the answer claims, trust the source. Narrowing the chip to the right deal or meeting, or naming the customer and time in your question, usually helps.
- A source says "Already open" instead of Open source. You're already looking at that meeting, email or document.
Changes
- Gus says a change was refused because Agent writes are off. An admin or the owner can turn on Agent writes in Settings › Organization. See What Gus can change for you.
- Gus said it filed a change, but nothing changed. It's waiting for you in Agent proposals, in the account menu. Confirm it within 24 hours, or it expires.
- Gus says the same change was already filed today. You asked for exactly the same change earlier within the same day (UTC). If you dismissed it, ask for a different change, or ask again the next day.
- I confirmed an old proposal and it undid a newer edit. Confirming writes the values Gus proposed, even if someone changed them after. Set the field back on the record.
- Gus's answer contains a code in capitals, or a word like "conflict" or "forbidden". Gus is passing on why a change was refused. The common ones:
- ALREADY_ANALYSED: you asked Gus to re-run a meeting's analysis, but the analysis already finished. Nothing ran and nothing was charged.
- not permitted or forbidden: your role can't make that change, for example on a deal you don't own or lead.
- conflict or already exists: the change clashes with something already there, such as an open to-do with the same text, or research that already ran on that to-do within the last hour.
- I pressed Stop, but the change happened anyway. A change Gus had already started can still go through after you press Stop. Check the record, and undo it there if you need to.
Messages in the panel
- "Your seat is read-only." A read-only seat can't ask Gus questions. Open Plan & usage to restore your seat, or ask your admin.
- "Your workspace is out of credits." Asking is paused until your credits reset; earlier answers stay readable. Ask your admin about more credits. If you see Request more credits, pressing it tells your admins. Goose checks credits when you send a question, so an answer already under way finishes, and the message appears on your next question.
- "Questions are paused by a spending limit." A spending limit for your workspace, or for Goose as a whole, has been reached. Open Help & feedback (the Help button in the left rail).
- "That message is too long." A question can be about 8,000 characters, a bit fewer when the chip is set to a deal or meeting. A counter appears under the box as you get close. Shorten the question or split it into two.
- "Paused by abuse protection." Questions arrived faster than anyone types. Wait a few minutes and try again. If you were working normally, tell us through Help & feedback (the Help button in the left rail).
- "The answer stopped partway.", "Goose could not be reached." or "Goose could not answer that." Check your connection, then press Ask again. If it keeps happening, tell us through Help & feedback (the Help button in the left rail).
- "Goose is paused for maintenance." or "Goose cannot check its spending limits right now." Wait a little, then press Ask again.
- "Goose did not allow that request." or "Goose cannot answer right now." This isn't something you can fix. Tell us through Help & feedback (the Help button in the left rail).
- "The closed-beta agreement is unsigned." Use the banner at the top of the page to review and sign it.
- "You are not an active member of this workspace." Your membership was removed or is still pending. An admin can restore it in Settings › Members.
- "Your session has expired." Reload the page and sign in again.
- "That conversation is no longer available." Start a new conversation from the clock button and ask again. You also see this if you switched workspace in another tab, because the conversation belongs to the other workspace. Reload the page, then ask again.
- "Couldn't load conversations.", in the history list: close the list and open it again.
