Send a follow-up email

Review the email Goose drafts and, if you've connected Gmail, save it to your Gmail drafts and send it from there.

Goose writes follow-up emails for you to review. You can edit any draft and copy it. If you've connected Gmail, you can also save it to your Gmail drafts and send it from Gmail.

Open the draft

You can start a follow-up from several places:

  • Home. A Follow-up · to write card has Draft follow-up: Goose writes the email, then opens it. A Follow-up · draft ready card already has one: Send and Edit both open it.
  • A meeting. On the meeting's Overview, under After this call, press Draft.
  • A to-do. Draft answer, Draft question, Schedule a meeting, Draft with file, Draft the email with it attached and Draft email each write an email for that to-do. See To-dos and follow-ups.

From Home and from a meeting, the draft opens in a panel at the side of the page. From a to-do's button, it opens in a window in the middle of the page, unless the to-do already has a draft, which opens in the side panel.

Edit it in the side panel

  1. Check To and Cc. Goose fills in the people it suggests, with their role on the deal. Press ✕ to remove someone, or Add recipient to add someone. An address marked added by you is one saved on the draft that Goose no longer suggests.
  2. Read the subject and the email, and change anything you like by typing in them.
  3. To let Goose rewrite it, press Regenerate. In How should it change?, pick any of Shorter, Warmer, More formal, Add the next steps and New subject line, or type what you want in the box, then press Regenerate. Goose keeps what it already knows and adjusts the email. If you prefer the earlier version, press Undo.

Pick how the draft should change, and Goose rewrites it.

Under the email, a small gray line reads This email was crafted with Goose, try it here. The words try it here are your referral link. If you've connected Gmail, the line is added after your signature when Goose saves the email to your Gmail drafts. You can't edit it in the draft, but you can turn it off in Settings › Referrals. See Referrals.

Copy copies the subject and email, if you'd rather paste it somewhere yourself. It leaves the referral line out.

If you've connected Gmail:

  1. Press Create draft. The email goes into your Gmail drafts, and the panel says Saved to your Gmail drafts with the date. While the panel stays open, the button then reads Update draft. Despite its name, pressing it saves a second copy to your Gmail drafts instead of changing the first one, so delete the older copy in Gmail.
  2. Press Open in Gmail ↗ to go to your drafts, then send the email from Gmail. Make any last changes there.

On Home, if you close a draft you've edited without saving it to Gmail, Goose keeps your edits. The draft waits in Open work at the bottom of the page until you come back to it.

Edit it in the window

A to-do's button opens the draft in a window titled Draft email.

  1. Read the email and change anything you like by typing in it.
  2. If drafting failed, press Try again to have Goose write it again.
  3. If you've connected Gmail, press Save to Gmail drafts. The window's title changes to Draft created, and you send the email from Gmail.

Close closes the window.

Close the to-do

Saving the draft to Gmail doesn't mark the to-do done. Either:

  • press ✓ Done on the card on Home, or Done on the to-do in the meeting or deal, or
  • send Goose's draft from Gmail without changing its subject or recipients. Goose checks your sent mail and usually marks the to-do done. It does this only for the to-do the draft answers.

If you've connected Gmail, your workspace has Goose Brain turned on, and you write the email yourself instead, the Activity panel may show a card asking, for example, Mark 1 follow-up done?, with the email it found. Press Mark done to close the to-do.

Common snags

  • The draft isn't in Gmail. Check that Gmail is connected in Settings › Integrations. If the Gmail row says Reconnect to allow drafts and sending, press Reconnect.
  • The draft in Gmail has no recipient. Goose saves the draft even when To is empty. Add the recipient in Gmail before you send it.
  • Home says it couldn't write or open the draft. Press the card's button again.
  • Home says the draft changed elsewhere. It was edited somewhere else while you had it open. Copy your edits, then close it and open it again.
