Connections

Gmail

What connecting Gmail does, why it isn't in every workspace yet, and who can open the emails Goose matches to a deal.

Note

Gmail isn't available in every workspace yet. Connecting it is turned off by default while it goes through a security review. If your Settings › Integrations page has no Gmail row, Gmail isn't available yet.

What it does

With Gmail connected, Goose:

  • matches email to your deals. Emails Goose matches to a deal show up on that deal, so your team can follow the conversation;
  • notices replies you owe a customer;
  • saves follow-up drafts to your Gmail. When Goose writes a follow-up, Create draft puts it in your Gmail drafts, and you send it from Gmail. See Send a follow-up email;
  • checks your sent mail, so when you send Goose's draft from Gmail, Goose marks it sent and updates the to-do it was for. If you cover a to-do in another email, Goose may suggest closing it for you to confirm.

When Goose saves a draft to Gmail, it adds one small line at the bottom, This email was crafted with Goose, try it here, with your referral link. You can turn it off for your own emails. See Referrals.

Connect it

  1. Open Settings › Integrations.
  2. Read the Gmail row. Before you connect, it tells you that teammates will be able to open the full text of emails Goose matches to a deal.
  3. Press Connect Gmail, sign in to Google and allow access. You come back to Integrations, and a banner says Gmail connected.
The Gmail row before it is connected: what it does, the note that teammates can open the full text of matched emails, and Connect Gmail.
The Gmail row tells you what teammates can see before you connect.

Who can open your emails

Only emails Goose matches to a deal are shown in Goose. When a teammate opens one, Goose fetches its full text from your Gmail at that moment.

To keep the full email to yourself, turn off Let teammates open the full email on your connected Gmail row. It's on to begin with. With it off, a small toast says Only you can open full emails.

This switch covers opening the full email in Goose. It doesn't cover Goose Brain. If your workspace has Goose Brain turned on, Goose keeps passages from the body of each email thread that's matched to a deal or company and includes someone at that company. Anyone in the workspace can get those passages by asking Gus, and the thread's subject shows on the Brain page in the left rail, whether this switch is on or off. Threads with only your own team on them are never kept. See What Gus can see.

Common snags

  • There's no Gmail row. Gmail isn't available yet.
  • The row says Reconnect to allow drafts and sending. Your Gmail was connected before Goose could save drafts. Press Reconnect and allow the new permission.
  • The draft isn't in Gmail. Check that the Gmail row is under Connected. If it's under Needs attention, press Reconnect.
  • A teammate can't open one of your emails. Check Let teammates open the full email. If your Gmail is disconnected or needs reconnecting, nobody can open the full text until you reconnect.
  • Older emails aren't on my deals. When you first connect Gmail, Goose looks at about the last two weeks of email.
