Install the companion

System requirements, installing on macOS (and on Windows, when available), signing in, and staying up to date.

The companion is a small desktop app. It records your calls, reminding you to get consent before it starts, and sends them to Goose, where the transcript, notes and follow-ups appear.

Before you start

Mac downloads open when the beta starts. Until then, the download page shows macOS as "Coming soon", and Windows has a Request Windows access button: press it and we'll email you when it's ready. The Download for macOS buttons inside Goose, in setup and in Settings › Devices, open the same page.

You need:

  • macOS: macOS 14.4 or later, on an Apple silicon Mac.
  • Windows (when available): Windows 10 version 1809 or later.
  • A Goose account in a workspace that has recording turned on.

Install on macOS

  1. Download the companion from getgoose.ai/companion. It comes as a notarized .zip.
  2. Open the .zip, move GooseCompanion into your Applications folder, then open it. In the menu bar and its menus, it's called Goose.
  3. Goose lives in the menu bar, not the Dock. The first time it opens, a welcome card says setup takes about a minute. Press Get started. To finish another time, press Set up later (or Esc) on any step. You can then sign in from the menu-bar menu with Sign in with browser, and allow permissions from the companion's Settings, under Recording.
  4. Sign in. Press Sign in with browser. Your browser opens; sign in to Goose there, and the app pairs this Mac with your workspace. If you belong to more than one workspace, choose the one this Mac's recordings should go to. A grayed-out workspace has recording turned off; an owner or admin can turn it back on in Goose settings. If sign-in fails, the card says why, for example that Goose couldn't be reached or the sign-in took too long. Sign in again.
  5. Allow three things: the microphone, call audio and notifications. See what each one is for. You can press Continue even if one is still missing, and allow it later.
  6. When you see Ready to record, you're done. The menu-bar menu opens so you can see where Goose lives.

Open at login. To have Goose start quietly in the menu bar whenever you log in, turn on Open at login in the companion's Settings, under General. If macOS holds it for approval, Goose shows a button that opens Login Items in System Settings.

Windows

Windows is coming. To hear when it's ready, press Request Windows access on the download page.

Staying up to date

  • macOS: the companion checks for updates on its own and offers signed updates from Goose. To install them without being asked, turn on Install updates automatically in the companion's Settings, under Software Update. Check for updates… in the menu-bar menu checks now. Goose doesn't check for updates on its own, or restart to install one, while you're recording.
